| The Original Pinettes Brass Band, Istanbul 2011 |
SONO has brought brass bands to the Istanbul Jazz Festival every year since 1997. Last year it was The Original Pinettes Brass Band, the only all-female brass band around. It was something to behold in the ancient city to see this group of vibrant young African-American women playing their instruments in the land that gave us Zildjian cymbals. The party on the Fourth of July sponsored by the American Consulate was an emotional moment, and the band was a huge success. Check out the party here, and be proud of your flag that's waving overseas. You'll hear and see "the girls" at the end of the video. They gained many fans while they were in Istanbul, and SONO is proud to have been able to give them this opportunity to perform overseas.
