Umbria Jazz in Perugia in the summer is very special. Venues pop up all over the city, both indoor and outdoor. The town itself is built on a hilltop, and escalators are cut into the hill to allow visitors to get to the plateau where the city is spread out. Rockin' Dopsie, Jr. and The Zydeco Twisters have been a regular act at the festival on and off for many years. Dopsie brings his brand of South Louisiana showmanship to Perugia, and the crowd literally goes wild.

2006 was significant for SONO--the first Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia after Hurricane Katrina. The Italian fans welcomed their old friend Les Getrex and Creole Cooking on the stage. Les had performed at the festival on several other occasions. In 2006, he and his kicking band really felt the love.
