Umbria Jazz Winter

There's nothing like a cup of Italian cappuccino on a cold day in December in the Umbrian hill town of Orvieto.  It's necessary to get fortified, because the music goes on at Umbria Jazz until late at night, and you've got to be alert in case you miss something.  Orvieto is a beautiful hilltop town, built on tufa, with a cathedral dating from 1330 that's one of the top three in central Europe.
In 2010, New Orleans' own Gary Brown and Feelings traveled through ice and snowstorms, delayed flights and horrendous lines to finally arrive, three days late for their gig on New Year's Eve, at 9PM.  We greeted the New Year in Orvieto with smiles on our faces, but Gary Brown and his band were happy to get to bed that night. You'd never know how tired these guys were to hear the energy in their performance.
